Design for a non-profit campaign
We Can! campaing Magazine and Social Media Campaing, Singapore
I was designing an informative magazine for the We Can! campaign that aimed to reduce violence against women by changing the attitudes and behaviors in society that perpetuate violence.  I was planning the concept, managing the design project, created the layout and content such as illustrations, photos and copy text.

The Blk2511 was a Social media campaign about domestic violence. We Can! Facebook page invited people to go behind the closed doors to hear what goes on in the homes, and to take action to make a change for a violence-free society. I generated the concept of using the iconic Singaporean highrise building and its apartments to go into the stories, to highlight the that "Domestic violence is not a private matter".  The campaign won Avon Global Communications Award.

Toolkit for building peace

The Peace Pack toolkit contains all needed to digitally collect and share people’s stories from locations in post-conflict areas. The pack itself has a guideline, smart phone (camera, recorder, editor and player), tripod, speaker and projector. With this set a  mediator can interview people in the post-conflict area (such as former war zone) and to capture and share the told stories as videos clips. The story subjects are issues that both parties of the conflict have in common such as their hopes for the future and and things in their everyday life. The videos are shown to each party to help them to see the others more like a fellow human beings, to add understanding.

This concept and prototype was done to help the work of CMI = Crisis Management Iniative which is an independent non-profit organisation that works to resolve conflict and to build sustainable peace. The project was done together with CMI and Aalto University where I studied. I was doing research (by interviews and benchmarks) and creating the concept as part of the design team. I was also making demo videos and illustrations.

Environmental art installation

Baltic Sea Cosmetics a.k.a. BS Cosmetics

I made an art installation of fake cosmetics series which ingredients are from the polluted Baltic Sea. It was displayed in "Stories of the Baltic Sea" exhibition in Helsinki. I wanted to bring a new approach to tell about the state of the Baltic Sea which is one of the most polluted seas in the world. I created a cosmetics brand and use cosmetics marketing clichés in a twisted way, asking: would you dare to use these natural products on your face?

The BS cosmetics set includes four products: toner (sea water), scrub (sea water and other materials found from the sea such as styrofoam pieces), cream (sea mud) and capsules (pieces of glass picked from the shore) with detailed, shocking product descriptions.

Children's book

Hirvi Hikkanen ("Moose Hiccup") is my childhood imaginary animal moose who came alive on the pages of a Finnish children's book "Hirvi Hikkanen ja ystävä vedessä" ("Moose Hiccup and a friend in the water"). I wrote the story, made illustrations and self-published the book. Book description: A thoughtful moose has long been living quietly in the woods, but now things are starting to happen. Moose Hiccup leaves from a forest party and goes to the beach to dream. Then he faces his big fear and a small but significant surprise.

Photo series
Saltwater Junk Food
Meal look-alike photos of from the trash collected from Port Melbourne's beach in Australia. Photos speak about our current lifestyle and how the ocean is treated. Some of the photos participated the "Healing the Bay" exhibition in Gasworks Arts Park, Melbourne.
Web services for various brands
Concept and UX design for various web services and campaigns.
Mobile application prototype

iPhone application that provides versatile and beautiful information about the trees in the park. This was my study work in Swinburne University in which I made the concept, did research (on site and online) and eventually created the wireframes and lay out.

Digital collections

Pixel Tree
Tree trunk collection forming the tallest digital tree. There are thousands of different tree species and there is even more of various trunks as some of the trees have several trunks. I've been collecting photos of tree trunks and piling them so that it looks like a tall, growing tree.
Botanic buddies
In this self-initiated photo project I collected Australian fallen flora and arranged them to present creatures and figures.
Street drops
Collection of things found on the streets. The items are from Europe, Australia and Southeast Asia.

Ou Mai Guud!
Participatory collection of objects. In this project I invited people to pick one item that is somehow special for them, and share a short story of it. They started an oline collection. The chosen items tell about the owner but also about the times we live.
